About Stories
As a visually impaired person growing up in Queens New York in the 60s, my ability to read words in a book was nonexistent. Most of my literary exposure was through recordings for the blind--Talking Books. Due to my chronic gastrointestinal condition as a child and visual impairment, my attendance at traditional grammar school was impossible. Obviously, my spelling and writing skills were very poor. It was not until my first Apple computer with a text-to-speech feature would I be able to hear what I could not see. Today, with both text-to-speech and speech-to-text assistive technology, my skill at writing stories has emerged. I love to write, and although there are still audio automated typos within my writing, I persevere. So here are a few short stories from my youth growing up in College Point Queens New York. They are true with a few embellishments and hold fond memories of long ago times. Although they may seem a bit bizarre, and in one case perhaps supernatural, however, they all reflect my unique and creative childhood living at my old home on College Place.
